Ponderosa North is a neighborhood in Phoenix, Arizona built by Ponderosa Homes between 1972 and 1978.
Ponderosa Homes was one of several California-based homebuilders that entered the Phoenix market in the early 1970s. Others included Presley (developers of Ahwatukee), Mission Viejo Company (developers of The Lakes in Tempe), and William Lyon Homes.
The original model homes were located on W. Beck Lane. They were presented in the “showcase” manner popular at the time, with a park-like lawn where the street would ordinarily be situated. As shown in the historic aerials below, there were initially six model homes, and two more were added by 1976. By 1977 the lawn had been replaced by street paving and sidewalks, and the models sold.
The floorplans and price list below date from 1976.
